Christmas and other Calamities

This year, the kids got a portable iPod compatible karaoke machine for Christmas.

We all love music so I was pretty excited about this particular gift. Not least because I also had visions of belting out a bit of Gloria Gaynor and Carly Simon myself from time to time! Because, as they say, singing is good for the soul.

The good news is, the kids love it!

… The bad news is we’ve just done the 90min road trip up the coast to Mum’s place and they were playing with it in the back seat, barely stopping for breath in between songs. And then at some point they figured out that they could make a horrible screeching feedback noise when the mic was held close to the speaker, which they thought was an hilarious accompaniment to their vocals.

It’s kind of hard to say how I feel right now. If I had to describe it, I’d say sort of like someone surgically removed my ears and gave them a Chinese burn before re-attaching them to the sides of my head.

So, I’m going to find a cold compress for my forehead, lie down, and think about how much I might be able to get for the damn thing on eBay next week.

Until next time,

Sonia
